Q:  I was recently laid off and would like to keep my current coverage as I have not yet received any information from my former employer. I understand they're obligated to send me some kind of info on this matter but when speaking to another ex employee he informed me he received nothing until after his coverage had been canceled. I want to keep my coverage.

A:  If your employer has more than 20 employees, they must offer you continuation of their group health plan.  They have up to 45 days to mail you the COBRA election form from your last day of group benefits.  If  it has been more than 45 days and you have not received your COBRA packet, you should contact the US Department of Labor at 1-866-487-2365.
