Q: I had double cobra coverage for 2 months. Now the 2nd cobra company requests information on the 1st cobra company. What kind of financial or legal obligation would I be under?
A: You can not have COBRA and other insurance at the same time. Also you can not have COBRA coverage from two previous employer's at the same time. If your COBRA coverage paid any claims when you had "double coverage", they will ask for a refund, then you or your provider's office will need to re-submit the claims to the other insurance company. If you signed up for COBRA from your employer and your spouse's employer the qualifying event date will determine which plan you can keep and which plan will pay claims during your double coverage.
