Q:  The bank I was laid off from was taken over by the FDIC and closed. Immediately thereafter a new bank came in and bought the bank and reopened. I have learned that I lost all my COBRA benefits the day bank was closed. Is this legal to cancel COBRA coverage like this with no notice, warning, grace period or other options?

A:  When an employer closes their doors and they cancel their group health insurance policy then your COBRA coverage will also end.  Some states offer a continuation plans. You should contact your state at www.naic.org to see if one is available.
