Q:  I received my COBRA information 44 days after I was terminated. There were insurance claims that were processed and paid after the last day of coverage. I do not plan on taking the COBRA coverage. How does this kind of situation get handled?

A:  If the claims were from visits to a medical facility before you coverage was cancelled they should be paid as normal.  If the claims were from medical expenses after your coverage was terminated then you will be responsible for the medical expenses out of pocket unless you had already had signed up for a new insurance plan before the claims were made, then you should submit them to your new insurance provider.  I know you said you were not planning on signing up for COBRA, if you do decide to sign up, your coverage would go retroactive to the last day of benefits and your claims would be paid either way.
