Q: I have had aetna for the last 10years and was laid off in 9/08,still have my card but it is expired,is there a way to renew my plan while I'm collecting unemployment under the new Fedral plans?
A: Cobra is a federal law that allows you to continue on your group health insurance with your previous employer. My guess is that you are past your enrollment period. The employer has up to 45 days to send the Cobra packet. You then will have up to 60 days to sign up for the plan.
