Q: My company stopped my insurance on a specific day and it was my understnading that I would be covered until the end of the month. My last day of work was 1-20-09, I was covered under my new employer on Feb 1, 2009. I went 11 days without coverage. My wife has ms and has not had a break in coverage in over 11 years. Will cobra do a prorate or will I have to pay for the whole month.
A: Cobra does not pro-rate. You will have to pay for the whole month in order to cover the month that you had a small lapse in coverage. Please contact your previous employer in order to continue the coverage under the Cobra law.
