Q: If I leave my current employer my insurance coverage will remain until May 31st. I would like to get COBRA coverage as of June 1st. to not have any gaps in coverage. How would I go about getting it?
A: If your employer has more than 20 employers they are required to provide you information regarding your rights to COBRA. With in 45 days from your last day the employer is required to send you the election form. Then you must respond with in 60 days, this is your election period. Your COBRA coverage begins on the date of your last day or on the date when your benefits ends. As long as you submit the election papers and premium payment there will not be a lapse or gap in your coverage.
