Q:  My wife's group insurance ends when she retires. Our daughter, 23 years old and a full-time graduate student has been covered under my wife's insurance. Is she still eligible to continue coverage under this same policy and for how long?

A:  Cobra is a federal law that allows you to continue your coverage through your previous employer.  If your wife’s place of employment is not cancelling everyone’s group plan than yes, your daughter is eligible for Cobra.  If there is still a group plan in effect you can continue your coverage.  You would have to contact your wife’s employer for information get you daughter enrolled.  If you are looking for a more affordable option to Cobra CLICK HERE we offer Cobra Alternatives.  They do not cover pre-existing conditions but are normally about a 1/3 of the cost of your Cobra coverage.
