Q:  Our employee has exhausted his COBRA and is now on Cal-Cobra. His spouse is loosing her job and he wants to add her on his Cal-Cobra insurance. Is this a qualifying event? She was not on the benefit plan at the employee’s termination.

A:  As far as I am aware if his wife was not on his group plan when he was employed, she would not be eligible to be added now.  I do believe she will have to get her own Cobra coverage through her employer as well.  If you would like further information on Cal-Cobra you can contact them directly at 213-897-8921.
