Q:Our employee has exhausted his COBRA and is now on Cal-Cobra. His spouse is loosing her job and he wants to add her on his Cal-Cobra insurance. Is this a qualifying event? She was not on the benefit plan at the employee’s termination.
A:As far as I am aware if his wife was not on his group plan when he was employed, she would not be eligible to be added now.I do believe she will have to get her own Cobra coverage through her employer as well.If you would like further information on Cal-Cobra you can contact them directly at 213-897-8921.
