Q:  I work part time for a school district that let’s me participate in the district insurance program at the employee’s expense. I have paid for a Lock-in HMO for a number of years. Will I qualify to continue insurance under COBRA as long as the school district continues to offer group plans to its employees. I have a medical condition that is going to require me to retire earlier than I planned on so insurance is very important. Thanks for any information you can provide.

A:  As long as your employer has a group health plan in effect, you would be eligible for COBRA continuation.  Due to the medical condition I would highly recommend you continue your coverage with COBRA.
