Q:  What happens from the day you leave your job until the COBRA info arrives?  Would I be covered?  Do you lose your coverage the day you leave?

A:  As soon as you sign up for COBRA (before your deadline)  and make your premium payment, you will be coveraged retro actively back to your last day.  This means there will be no lapse or gap  in coverage.
