Q:My Current cobra benefits are for "Lifetime" as set up by my previous employer. My Current employer is requesting the legal authority for this "lifetime" cobra benefit. My Cobra Benefit Administrator confirms that this is a lifetime benefit per the plan, but I need documentation in the Cobra law which specifically allows an employer to choose this extension of cobra benefits for life?
A:As far as I am aware Cobra is not a lifetime benefit. For clarification you will need to contact your Cobra administer or try contacting the Department of Labor. To my understanding Cobra coverage is only eligible for up to 18 months in some situations 36 months.
