Q:  I have insurance through my husband which is the family plan. His insurance is kicking me off after being on for 5 yrs paying for a condition of mine. Just recently I received a letter saying they were kicking me off for a pre-existing condition. They said I could receive Cobra for 36 mo for $925.00 Is this the case and can they just eliminate me like that?

A:  I would recommend contacting your husband’s employer to verify why exactly you are being removed from your husband’s policy.  It is a possibility due to your condition that you have maybe reached your lifetime maximum.  My suggestion to you is to find out exactly why you have been removed and then you can go from there.  If you feel something has been done in error and you would like to verify your rights, you can also try communicating with your State Department of Insurance.
