Q:  A friend was recently divorced by her husband who is employed by a museum run by the state of Illinois. She had been covered by his medical insurance, CIGNA. He has had her dropped from this insurance. She has major health issues and needs medical insurance quickly. Is she eligible for COBRA until she finds a suitable plan?

A:  She is eligible for Cobra on her own, she needs to contact either CIGNA or her husband’s previous employer and let her know the situation that she is no longer going to be covered under her ex-husbands Cobra that she needs to take out her own.  Due to her pre-existing conditions Cobra is going to be her best option to be sure its all covered.
