Q:  My sister had a stroke and her employer will keep her on the payroll for another 10 months. When will her COBRA benefits begin and end? Does COBRA start when her employer takes her off the payroll or when she had the stroke?

A:  She will be eligible for Cobra from the last day of her benefits.  To apply for Cobra, she needs to receive a packet from her previous employer and apply.  If your sisters company employs more than 20 employees and they still have a group health plan in force then Cobra should be an option to her.  To verify this information you should talk with her previous employer directly because that is who her Cobra coverage is going to come through and who she is going to apply through as well.
