Q:  My insurance through my company ended 04/30/09. If I were to take a contract position that is only for 4 months from 06/15/09 - 10/15/09 and the contract recruiting company offers insurance to contractors that might not be as good as my previous insurance through my previous employer, would I still be eligible for COBRA or I would have to take the group insurance through the contractor even though the position was only for 4 months and COBRA is offered for 9-12 months?

A:  If you take Cobra coverage and you then get another job that offers group health benefits, if you do not want to take that coverage you can keep your Cobra for its maximum amount of time up to 18 months.  The only thing is, if your Cobra is eligible for the reduction, and you get another job with benefits, you are going to lose your reduction in premium.
