Q:  I have been with Cobra in the past. Can I get the same coverage as I had at the time?

A:  To be eligible for Cobra, you need to have lost a job that you had benefits at, and meet the requirements to be able to apply.  You can’t just pick Cobra up on your own, Cobra is a federal law that allows you to continue benefits after you have lost a job, it allows you to continue on your own, on your previous employer’s group health plan.  Therefore, if you lost a job recently that had benefits and you were on the group health plan, than yes, you can sign up for Cobra.  But if you hadn’t had a job recently where you had benefits, you can’t just pick up Cobra on an individual basis.
