Q: Our insurance is covered under Jack Conway and CO. and our number is issued under that name. We are a division that is closing on August 30th and we are being laid of as of June 30th. We are being told that they only have to cover us until Aug. 30th because our division makes the payments, even though it is under Jack Conway and Co. and they are staying open, is this true?
A: If the company that you have benefits through is still offering insurance to the remaining employees you should be eligible for Cobra. If there is more than 20 employees and the remaining workers have the same insurance carrier and coverage, Cobra should be an option to you. I would recommend talking with your Cobra administrator and asking them for clarification as well as visit the Department of Labors website, they are who oversee the Cobra law and maybe on the site you can find some additional information.
