Q: My employer sent me the Cobra election form. I sent it back promptly. It had certain amount on it. Even after repeated attempts to contact the employer for Cobra bill, I have not received it. I made couple of phone calls and I was told I need not pay (they are in the process of setting up the system). It has passed 45 days. I am worried about my coverage. My employer does not respond. (In this case the Cobra is managed by the employer) Per the stimulus 65% is paid by employer (if I understand it correctly). I did not receive any notification regarding this. What are my options?
A: Your previous employer, you are correct in whom handles your Cobra benefits. If you know who your Cobra administrator is, the other individual who is handling the Cobra aspect of things you could try to contact them as well. Sometimes your past employer has a 3rd party administrator; it may be on some of the paperwork you received when you applied for Cobra. If all else fails and you feel that your rights are not being met, you can try contacting the Department of Labor, they are who oversees the Cobra law at 866-444-3272.
