Q: Hi- I have a couple questions regarding your quotes and different plan options. I will be returning to school in a month and am in need of insurance for a month, as I lost my job prematurely. I am on several prescription meds that need filling only once a month but add up quickly. What plan would be my best option for cheaply getting this taken care of? Also-is there a plan that I can opt for that provides me with the same coverage I had at my recent workplace at just a higher cost? I appreciate anything that you can tell me, as I am out of one of my medications and need also to pay for school. Thank you for your time. Sincerely
A: These alternative plans to Cobra are a great short term option to you, the medication coverage would be a discount card for prescriptions. It would give you up to 50% off of generic and up to 15% off of name brand.
If you want to elect the same coverage you had when you were working, you would need to sign up for Cobra and you would need to request a Cobra packet from your past employer to enroll and get the coverage started. Cobra is a federal law, if you are eligible; to continue your same coverage you had after you have lost your job.
