Q:  My insurance ended May 31. I didn't receive my paperwork until the end of July. Do I have to pay all the way back to the first of June to start coverage now?

A:  When you lose your job and if Cobra is an option to you, your company has 45 days to send you your Cobra paperwork and then you have 60 days to elect the coverage.  When you get your paperwork, when you sign up and take the coverage it goes retro-active to your last day of benefits.  Therefore, to my understanding you would have to back pay that coverage.  You can always double check that information with your Cobra administrator or your past employer as well and they can let you know that information too.
