Q: My job was eliminated last Feb. and I continued health care through COBRA and my former employer. I was re-hired by a contract house doing my same job the next day. My contract employer now offers a health care plan for which I would pay full cost. I just became eligible for this after a waiting period of several months. My question is, Can I keep purchasing my health care through COBRA, or must I switch to my current employers lousy plan.
A : I would go to www.dol.gov/COBRA to review more information:
After the COBRA election, coverage is obtained with another employer group health plan that does not contain any exclusion or limitation with respect to any pre-existing condition of such beneficiary. However, if other group health coverage is obtained prior to the COBRA election, COBRA coverage may not be discontinued, even if the other coverage continues after the COBRA election.
