Q:  If my employer is not paying for my insurance premium anymore and I will be laid off soon for the winter months can I get the cobra insurance?

A:  If your Company has health insurance, and you are laid off you should be able to continue on Cobra.  There are something’s though that has to be in place for Cobra to be an option.  For example, your Company has to have more than 20 employees, the employer still has to be offer a group health plan to the remaining workers still working.  If there isn’t a group health plan, than Cobra isn’t an option because there is nothing for you to continue on.  Cobra is a continuation of the same Insurance you had when working, if Cobra is an option than you need to request a Cobra packet from your HR department.
