Q: In February/07 I lost my job after the company was sold. I worked for the Corp. for 14 years. I started collecting unemployment November/08 and am still unemployed to date. As of January/2010, I am able to re-enroll in a COBRA plan in CT. Do I qualify for reimbursement help through the Federal Stimulus Package? Your help in letting me know if and how to apply would be greatly appreciated. I am looking for work as an energy consultant and hope to find work soon. In the meantime, any reimbursement of my COBRA payment would be very helpful to me and my family. Thank you in advance for your help.
A: I am not sure which plan you are re-enrolling into with your State, its possibly that your Federal Cobra that you can be on for up to 18 months is up, and now you are doing some sort of mini-Cobra through your State. I don’t believe those plans are subject to the reduction, you would need to talk to the person who is handling your re-enrolling into whichever plan you are looking into at the very moment. The reduction is normally only for the Federal Cobra after you have lost your job for up to 18 months, but I don’t believe that is the coverage you are on.
