Q:  I started with a new company on Feb 1. My health insurance ran out on Jan 31 with my old company. I still have not rec'd a package for Cobra that my new company will be paying for.  My last employer is not being helpful and I want to make sure you have the information you need to get this done ASAP.

A:  Your past employer has 45 days from your last day of benefits to supply you with your Cobra packet, if your Company has more than 20 employees than Cobra should be an option to you.  So its possible they just haven’t mailed you the information yet, you can always try calling the HR Department to make sure and see when it will be mailed.  If you feel that your rights are not being met I would recommend visiting the Department of Labors website, they oversee the Cobra law www.dol.gov/COBRA
