Q:  I was laid off and I (and my wife) have been on COBRA for 10 months.  Next month I am eligible for Medicare by age.  How long will my COBRA last if I don't go on Medicare? Can my wife stay on my COBRA if I do go on Medicare?

A:  To my understanding your employer does not have to offer you COBRA when you are eligible for Medicare, but you would need to speak to either your past employer or your COBRA administrator to verify this.  They would be able to let you know if it’s going to be continued to offer to you.  You wife should be able to continue her coverage with COBRA since she is not eligible to get on Medicare.
