Q: I got fired yesterday, what do I need to do to get Cobra?
A: If your past employer has more than 20 employee's than they are obligated by the federal law to offer you a continuation of the same group health plan that you were on. The difference would be the monthly cost. You will be responsible for at least 100% of the premium. Your past employer may hire a 3rd party administrator that will be sending you an election letter in the mail. Between the past employer and the administrator, they have no more than 45 days to get that letter to you. All you have to do is fill out and return the election letter and make a premium payment and your policy will be reinstated.
If you are a healthy person who does not live in NY, NJ, MA, or VT and would be interested in a lower cost Alternative to COBRA please Click Here With this policy you have the ability to choose your deductible: $250, $500, $1000 or $2500
