Q: I need to have an MRI and my insurance company requires a pre-certification for this procedure. They will not pre-certify the MRI until I pay the premium. I plan to pay it the end of this week, but I need the MRI prior to that.. Will they have to pay the claim?
A: If your insurance plan requires pre-certifications for specific procedures then they have the right to deny the claim if you or your provider did not get the proper authorization. Some insurance plans have a pre-cert penalty and will pay the claim at a reduced benefit.
