Q: I AM LEAVING MY JOB AS A CONTRACTED EMPLOYEE TO A CITY EMPLOYEE , AND I HAVE SURGERY ON SEPTEMBER 10TH. MY INSURANCE AS A CONTRACTED EMPLOYEE ENDS THE END OF AUGUST, AND THE NEW INSURENCE DOESNT START FOR 30 DAYS. IF I HAVE COBRA WILL IT BE COVERED??
A: If COBRA is an option for you, then your past employer will offer you an extension of their group health plan. When you elect to continue your coverage, and make a premium payment, your policy will start where it left off. COBRA is retro active. Please talk to your benefits manager to confirm eligibility for COBRA.
