Q: Currently I have United Health Care through my husband but he is leaving his job this month and we are moving to the East Coast. We will use Cobra during that time. My question, in filling out new patient forms what will my insurance be? Is it still United Health Care and I use the same insurance cards as before or will we be issued new cards and now it's considered Cobra?
A: COBRA is a continuation of your previous employer's group health policy. COBRA continuation must provide you with the same coverages, same benefits that you had when you were employed. You will be able to use the ID cards that you currently have. I suggest that you call the phone number on the back of your ID card and ask them for a list of providers in your new state. If your employer’s group health plan is an HMO, then they must provide you with a policy that you can use in your new area.
If you are a healthy person who does not live in NY, NJ, MA, or VT and would be interested in a lower cost Alternative to COBRA please Click Here With this policy you have the ability to choose your deductible: $250, $500, $1000 or $2500.
