Q:  My son has come off my group insurance plan at work due to his age. He has asthma and does not plan to go to work for a company with group insurance. An individual policy will not cover his pre-existing conditions.  Can he pay for COBRA and a private policy at the same time so his pre-existing conditions will be covered?

A:  An employee and their dependents are not allowed COBRA continuation and other insurance at the same time.  The only way someone can keep COBRA and other insurance is if the other insurance has limitations or exclusions for pre-existing conditions.
