Q: I quit my job and was told by my company that I would be receiving papers from COBRA for Dental and Medical insurance. I received my Dental Insurance papers from COBRA about two weeks ago, but have yet to receive my medical papers. I want to check to see if they are being sent, or if for some reason COBRA didn't receive the paperwork needed from my old employer.
A: You should contact your previous employer and let them know that you only received the COBRA dental paperwork. Usually the previous employer or their plan administrator will send a COBRA packet that will include the election form that allows you to choose or decline all the insurance plans that are available for COBRA continuation. It is the previous employer’s responsibility to make sure that you receive the COBRA election.
