Q: I presently have Cobra insurance. My husband passed away 13 months ago and my cobra will be running out soon. I am having a terrible time trying to find insurance since I have diabetes. What can I do or why am I being told that NO ONE will insure me with diabetes.
A: If you have COBRA insurance because the death of your husband was the qualifying event, you should have the continuation for a period of up to 36 months. If that is not the case and you only have continuation for up to 18 months, you may want to contact your state Department of Insurance. There may be a state issued plan that could work for you. You can visit their web site at www.naic.org for more information and a list of state specific phone numbers.
We do offer a discount program that may benefit you. It is not insurance but will give you discounts on services given by selected providers. For more information visit www.benicard.com
