Q:I have been terminated from a professional position within a church organization (Music Director). It is a very large organization using a corporate/secular group health plan. Are ALL churches exempt from COBRA coverage? If so, what is the alternative (eg. State coverage) and where can we get some information on this?
A:All church or church controlled organizations no matter how large are not subject to COBRA laws.A church organization employer does not have to offer you COBRA continuation. You may want to contact your state’s department of insurance to see if they offer a Mini-COBRA.
If you have lost your opportunity for insurance with your past employer and are looking for a health insurance policy you may qualify for an Alternative policy. Click Herefor more information.
