Q:  I have been terminated from a professional position within a church organization (Music Director). It is a very large organization using a corporate/secular group health plan. Are ALL churches exempt from COBRA coverage?  If so, what is the alternative (eg. State coverage) and where can we get some information on this?

A:  All church or church controlled organizations no matter how large are not subject to COBRA laws.  A church organization employer does not have to offer you COBRA continuation.  You may want to contact your state’s department of insurance to see if they offer a Mini-COBRA.

If you have lost your opportunity for insurance with your past employer and are looking for a health insurance policy you may qualify for an Alternative policy. Click Here for more information.
