Q:  I moved to California from New York a year ago. I am collecting under Cobra and because of pre existing conditions am having difficulty getting insurance here in California. Can I extend my Cobra to Cal Cobra coverage after 18 months to an additional 18 months?

A:   Usually Cal-COBRA is available for residents of California that have group health insurance through a California employer and the plan is from  California based insurance company.  You will need to contact the California insurance department to see if you are eligible for Cal-COBRA.   The phone number for the California Department of insurance is 800-927-4357.
