Q:   My coverage terminates January 5, 2008 with a 31 day grace period. My question is I am currently receiving treatment for a broken wrist and will need a surgery in the future for pin removal and also another casting. Will this be covered?

A:  There is no pre-existing condition clause for COBRA continuation.  If you elect COBRA you are actually continuing the same group health insurance that you had with your past employer. So, if your medical conditions were covered under that plan they will continue to be covered under COBRA.  Your employer or their COBRA plan administrator will mail you the COBRA packet that contains an election form to sign up for COBRA.   The COBRA continuation is retro-active to the last day of group benefits.  You will not have a lapse in coverage.
