Q:  My company of 100 employees has announced it is ending our BC/BS coverage. Does Bc/Bs have to offer me a COBRA extension of coverage since it was a fully insured plan?

A:  COBRA is a federal law. The insurance company does not offer you the continuation coverage; it is the past employer who has to offer you a continuation of their group health plan to you. If the employer does not have a group health plan for you to continue on, COBRA may not be an option for you. You are still going to want to check with the employer to see if they have an alternative plan for you.
