Q:I resigned and I have not received any info from my former company regarding how I can, keep my insurance under COBRA. Please confirm that I can get insurance from them and the time period they are suppose to notify me. Also am I still covered?
A: Resigning from your job is a qualifying event for COBRA continuation. Your previous employer (if they have more than 20 employees) is required under COBRA federal law to mail you the COBRA packet with in 45 days from your last day of work or the last day of group benefits, which ever is later. COBRA continuation is retro-active to your last day of group benefits. As long as you elect COBRA, there will not be a lapse in coverage.
