Q: My husband is a graduate student and we qualify for Medicaid. He will soon be getting a job and making more money disqualifying us of Medicaid. I am currently pregnant and need continuous coverage; will Cobra cover me with the pregnant and with the same benefits of Medicaid?
A: COBRA is a federal law that requires an employer to offer continuation of their group health plan. If you do not have insurance through an employer you would not be eligible for COBRA continuation. You may want to contact your state's Department of Insurance at www.naic.org to see if there are other programs available to you other than Medicaid.
