Q:My wife was in between jobs when she found out she was pregnant. At this point are there any insurance benefits that we can receive with Cobra Insurance? Any Retro pay? And what is the estimated monthly expense if so?
A:If your wife was enrolled in her previous employer’s group plan and that employer has more than 20 employees she would be eligible for COBRA continuation. However, there is a limited time frame to sign up for COBRA.You have 60 days to elect COBRA from your last day of group benefits.Once you elect COBRA the insurance is retro-active to the last day of group benefits.Your wife should contact her previous employer to see if she is eligible for COBRA.The employer or their COBRA plan administrator will tell her what her monthly cost is.
