Q:  I am starting with a new employer but my old employer's insurance is better. Can I elect Cobra and not sign up for the new employers insurance? If so how long can I stay on Cobra?

A:  If your previous employer has more than 20 employees and you were on their group health policy you would be eligible for COBRA.  The maximum amount of time you can keep COBRA coverage is up to 18 months as long as you do not become covered under your new employer's group health policy.  You can not have COBRA continuation and other insurance at the same time.
