Q: My girlfriend missed one payment and has been canncelled. She is sick with pnuemonia and is bi-polar. She has been immediately been canceled. Please is there something she can do?

A:  COBRA law requires the employer or plan administrator give you a 30 day grace period to make your payment.  Payments  made after the 30 day grace period do not have to be accepted by your previous employer and your COBRA continuation coverage will be terminated.  If they emplyer or plan administrator give you a 30 day grace period, you should contact the US Department of Labor at 1-866-487-2365.
