Q:  My wife is pregnant and currently has no insurance because we are currently in the UK and covered by NHS. We are moving to MD in one month time. Can we get COBRA cover until she is employed?

A: COBRA is a federal law that applies to US employers.  If the employer has more than 20 employees they are required by law to offer continuation of their group health plan when a qualifying event occurs.   Since you do not have your health insurance through an employer’s group plan, you are not eligible for COBRA.  You should contact the state of Maryland to see what insurance programs they have available at www.naic.org
