Does having an employee or dependent on COBRA affect the employer’s insurance premiums?
Q: As an employer–I have an employee that has a child turning 25 and wants this child to be put on cobra–Can this child once on cobra affect my premiums for the next renewal period due to his use of insurance? If so –this doesn’t seem fair to the other employees that are paying the current fees charged them. A: An employee or dependent on COBRA continuation will not affect the employers premiums at renewal. The health status of the employee or dependent will not be a facor for an increase of premiums that the employer pays.
