Does COBRA Cover Pregnancy?

My question is that my wife is currently pregnant will we be covered under COBRA or is that a preexisting condition not covered? What if I find a job before the baby is born, but my new employer does not cover for 6 months, will I continue to use COBRA until my employee covers us?

Yes, COBRA Covers Pregnancy

COBRA is a continuation of your previous employer’s group health policy. If there is coverage for a pregnancy on that health plan then there will be coverage for the pregnancy through COBRA continuation. You will be able to remain on COBRA for up to 18 months or until you and your family can be enrolled in your new employer’s group health.

As COBRA is a continuation of your former work health insurance, the cost of your labor and delivery will be the same as if you were employed and using the same plan.

Having A Newborn Is A Qualifying Event

Your newborn child can be added on to COBRA for additional premiums.

Your Spouse May Elect COBRA When Pregnant, But You Don’t Have To

When you elect COBRA insurance, you may choose which plan dependents may continue coverage.
