My employer closed and was self-insured

Case # ff0000 Q: What are my rights if my employer does not offer me COBRA within 45 days? There were over 20 employees within the company when it closed, but we have been told that since we were self-insured we will not be offered COBRA. A: COBRA is a continuation of an employer’s group health plan. This plan could be self-funded, self-insured or a policy from an insurance company. The reason you are not eligible is because your employer closed its doors. COBRA continuation is not available if there is no longer an employer’s health plan.
