American Rescue Plan Act of 2021’s COBRA Subsidy Ends September 31. What’s next?

Will we be covered during before the paperwork gets processed?

Q: My husband was laid off last week. How long are we covered under his former work insurance before we have to start paying for COBRA? I know his employer has 45 days to notify and we have 60 days to choose, but are we covered in the meantime? A: When your election form and payment is received by your previous employer (or their 3rd party administrator) your COBRA coverage is retro-active to your last day of employment or your last day of group benefits. There is no lapse or gap in coverage. You may be required to pay any medical bills that you occur from your last day to the time it takes to process your paperwork. You will be reimbursed by your insurance company when your election form is received and processed
