Continuation of insurance coverage

ody Q: I had been receiving COBRA coverage through my former employer through the company’s group coverage plan starting September 2012 but recently received a letter from them stating that they had sold their practice and will be terminating their group coverage because the new company will be paying for a new plan & as a result they will also be terminating my COBRA coverage as of 1/1/2013. Do I need to now find my own private insurance or is my employer required to offer some sort of alternative? They are not getting back to me to answer any of my questions.
