Required time frame to force employee on COBRA

ody Q: We have a very ill employee who has had a setback in his recovery-initially expected to be 6 weeks. It is now 8 weeks and our insurance company is telling us we must put him on COBRA. Is this their decision? If the company is willing to keep him in the group, can the insurance company throw him out – COBRA payments will be beyond the employee’s financial capability at this time.
