COBRA Payment Stubs

ody Q: I have not received any payment stubs yet, and am worried it is pending (and will affect my credit score). I have contacted my previous employer a few times, but have also been having a hard time getting any answers.

Could you please let me know how I can access my payment stubs?

A: COBRA is NOT an insurance company

COBRA is a federal law that requires employers with 20 or more employees to offer the continuation of the same group health care coverage after you’ve voluntarily or involuntarily left your job, or have had your work hours reduced.

Some COBRA Administrators don’t send out payment stubs until the payment is almost due. Keep an eye out for that stub in the mail. Also getting proof you mailed your payment on time is a good idea. A few administrators will let you pay online.

The best way to find out what’s going on with your payment is to contact the COBRA Administrator. Your COBRA Administrator could be someone in HR at your previous employer, or it could be a third party administrator. In order to find out you will need to talk to someone at your previous employer.
